After Power Lab
Collect reusable left-over supplies.
Store the supplies in your parish's supply closet or resource room for use in future VBS programs or other children's ministry events. If you borrowed supplies such as pool noodles, buckets, or CD players, return them to their owners.
Send your Operation Kid-to-KidT materials to International Bible Society.
(For more information, see the "Operation Kid-to-Kid" section of your Director Manual, or visit www.ok2k.org.) The Faith Fusion Finale Leader may have these from the Day 5 program.
Leave rooms decorated for your next parish service.
Give your parishioners a chance to peek in and see Power Lab. Cue the Sonic Sing & Play Music CD; put a few crafts, Bible Memory Buddies, People of Faith Cards, and Bible Power Packs out on the table, and invite people in! Ask station leaders, Crew leaders, and kids who attended Power Lab to share their favorite VBS experience. You might even provide a few Test Tube Treats to share!
Follow up with Power Lab visitors.
Mail Power Lab volunteer appreciation postcards or mailable Follow-Up Foto FramesŪ (available from Harcourt Religion). Encourage Lab Crew Leaders to make personal contact with the members of their Lab Crews within two weeks after VBS. Use the additional follow-up ideas in your Director Manual.
Report on your program.
Put a brief write up in your parish bulletin sharing some of the awesome results of Power Lab. Mount photos of the fun on poster boards and display them for people to see when they arrive for Mass. Make a big thank-you sign for everyone who helped make Power Lab a success. When others see how much fun VBS can be, your recruiting will be a breeze next year! In fact, they may even sign up for next year's VBS on the spot!
Present a slide show or video, or post photos from your program.
Just show all the Spotlight Drama presentations back-to-back. (The work is already done!) Kids (and their parents) love seeing themselves on the "big screen." And colorful photos will bring back memories of a terrific time at Power Lab.
Meet with your entire Power Lab staff to evaluate your program.
Celebrate the best VBS ever! Make written notes of good ideas that could be used for next year's program. Note any problems that came up and how they were solved. Brainstorm about ways to avoid similar problems in the future. Include notes of how you adapted the Power Lab materials to fit your parish. Record the names of Lab Crew Leaders and station leaders who are interested in helping again next year.
Thank your staff members for all their hard work.
You may want to hand out balloons, flowers, or baked goodies to show your appreciation. The preschool leader at our field test gave all of her volunteers a Power Bar!
